Brook Trout: April 2006

This was a quick carving that I did on a day off. It was the first real nice day of spring here in Nebraska. My father in law like to go trout fishing, or at least stand in the water and drink beer with his brother up north. This was a fallen branch from an elm tree in our front yard. It had a nice Y at the top. This stick only took a few hours to carve and thus become the first 1 day stick from start to finish. I pretty much winged the painting. Overall, given the time invested I am happy with the results.

Koala: March 2006

My son has been asking me to carve him a stick with his favorite animal - the koala. I worked up this one as a 2 piece carving so that the koala could be removed when he wanted to play swords with his buddies. It was built up from 3/4 poplar and the koala is basswood. It was fun to carve and the bamboo look turned out pretty cool.
