Rough Green Tree Snake: August 2005

I was so excited after completing the first cane that I went to work on a more ambitious project. This stick details a small rough green tree snake common in many parts of the United States. To add a little fun I added a small frog to the top of the stick. This is stick is also carved in poplar and finished with shellac and acrylic.

The Turtle Stick: July 2005

This is the first stick I have ever carved. It was started on a camping trip with my son and completed shortly after that. It was carved entirely by hand from a poplar log. The finish is several coats of shellac.

First Post

Here is a customary 1st post. I created this blog to provide an outlet to display the carvings that I create. They are mostly in the form of canes and walking sticks. I like this art form for several reasons. First and foremost it does not just sit. It goes where you choose to take it. Other reasons is the variety of subjects, and it is just plain unique. I came to carving from woodworking and quite by chance. It has become my hobby, passion, and someday hopefully my retirement.
